A DEEP SUMMARY ON.... PRAISE AND WORSHIP....(8)

WORSHIP

Last week I promised to get into deep in answering the seven questions. I am going to start with the key question that will help us get the answers to the rest as well: What is worship?

There was a time when I really struggled on what really this is, I could just here people saying let us worship God, or it is time to worship or maybe give us a worship song and even let's go to a praise and worship concert. It was something strange but everyone seemed to know it so  just followed their ways, if they sing, I sing, if they pray, I pray, if they lift up their hands, I did the same even though I might have not had a strong conviction to do so.

I could not get the most of the time back then. But when I started knowing what worship really means, not just the meaning from the dictionary the true revelation from God, is when I started enjoying worshiping God and so I have continued seeking more and more of the concerns of worship.

Now let us come to the question, what is worship?

The English word worship comes from a Greek word 'Proskuneo' which means 'to fall before' or 'bow down before'. It is not just a mere action but it is an attitude of the spirit.
Worship is to be done all the time regardless of the time or the situation we are going through.

We praise God because of what He has done, He is doing and/or what He is going to do but we worship God for who He is. When God reveals Himself to you, you will just worship Him! The level of your   depends so much on your knowledge of who God is, to what extent has He revealed Himself to you! He is a great God!!

If you read from the book of Mark chapter 12 verses 29 through 33 as Jesus was answering a question

29 "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.   30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'   31 The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
32 "Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
(NIV)

Worshiping God is acknowledging His greatness, knowing that there is only one living God. One will not turn to idles while knowing for sure who really God is! God has commanded us to have no other gods other than Him

We see this from the book of Exodus chapter 20 verses 2 through 6

"I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

3 "You shall have no other gods before me.

4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand [ generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments.
NIV

This is because He knows that He is the only God, the only Worthy God and He wants us as His children to know the same! Only God deserves to be worshiped as He is the only true living God!!
